You set your heart down on the chopping block and watch it beat for a while. You think to yourself about the many times your heart and that chopping block have met. They embrace each other as old friends would; completely mindful of each others well-being. You mouth a small request to the universe, asking that the one wielding the axe have less than adequate aim.

The thought of grabbing your heart and running crosses your mind, but you’re not that person anymore. Rather, you don’t want to be that person anymore. This time you’ve come prepared. You’re awareness of these situations have grown because of the fact that you have lived through so many of them. Broken, beaten, set on fire…your heart’s been through it all.
