Her past was a wreck. She would often find herself trying to skim through the pieces of it, searching for any aspects of her which remained whole. The work was hard, there was just so much to search through: disregarded feelings here, words left unsaid there–a complete mess. 

What was unsettling to her, was how much of what she was sifting through was unfamiliar. Throughout the years, she had tried her hardest to forget the majority of things that had happened, and while searching, she began to see that perhaps her hard work had paid off. She’d walk passed a memory of an old lover and barely recognize his face. She’d saunter down the paths of her life once lived and feel like a stranger. How would she be able to find herself in a place where her presence wasn’t present?

That question had haunted her for quite some time…
